Housing Choice Voucher Homeownership Program
The Gainesville Housing Authority is proud to offer eligible participants the opportunity to achieve homeownership through the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP). This program allows qualified families to use their housing voucher to help pay for monthly homeownership expenses instead of rent—creating a pathway to long-term stability and generational wealth.
How the Program Works
Through the Homeownership Program, the Gainesville Housing Authority provides financial assistance to approved participants to support monthly homeownership costs, including:
Mortgage principal and interest
Property taxes and homeowner’s insurance
Utilities and maintenance expenses (as applicable)
Instead of paying a landlord, participants make payments toward owning their own home, while the Housing Authority provides a subsidy directly to the lender.
Eligibility Requirements
To participate in the Homeownership Program, families must:
Be an active participant in the Housing Choice Voucher Program in good standing
Meet minimum income and employment requirements
Demonstrate readiness for homeownership, including financial stability
Complete a HUD-approved homeownership counseling program
Qualify for a mortgage from an approved lender
Additional requirements may apply based on federal regulations and local program policies.
